Question by justcurious: I have been recently diagnozed with Mild Sleep Apnea. Do CPAP’s really work?
I know I need to loose weight. They say that the sleep apnea will go away then. I do not want to wear that thing every night but am tired of being exhausted constantly. If I force my self to wear it will it make any difference. Need to hear from others that it has helped.

well, a friend told me once that if they’re only setting them on the lowest setting they’re probally just trying to make money off of you.

My father used to use one of those. He had a lot of problems getting used to wearing it at night while he was sleeping. But once he did, he DEFINITELY was able to sleep better, and not be so tired during the day. It helped him a lot

Yes, it will make a huge difference in the way you sleep and you’ll have allot more energy the next day. I would rather wear one myself, than to stop breathing in the middle of the night. Try it out for a day or two, you’ll notice the difference in one day.
Good luck & Take Care

You need it set at a correct air pressure for you, and then it will work. Ask the tech that sets it up to help customize it for you. It know it isn’t the greatest thing to wear, but your sleep is really important, and you will do much better in your weight loss efforts if you get good quality rest. In fact, your lack of sleep may be the only thing holding you back. Insist that you get the machine set up properly for you, and if it isn’t helping, ask them to come back and adjust the pressure.

It helped my husband. He said he slept better than he ever had before once he got used to the machine.

My husband has sleep apnea and CPAP has been a blessing! He is no longer tired. He no longer snores. And, I don’t have to worry that he will not wake up one morning because the apnea lasted too long (yes, it can happen).
If you want to feel better, I suggest you use it. It is not to get money from you as someone said. It really is a medical device geared to help you.

Hi there- Yes a cpap machine does work if you can tolerate it. There are other alternatives, one of which you already spoke of and that’s to lose weight. The other is surgery and that is only recommened for severe sleep apnea. Unfortunatly, most insurances don’t cover surgery unless you have a documented severe case. Hope that helps.

It is a wonderful device. It is hard to get used to at first. If you did not have a sleep study done prior to getting one ask the tech to titrate you so you get the corect pressure for your degree of sleep apnea. If you continue to have trouble getting used to it ask your service provider for a full face mask. Some people for one reason or another can not handle a mask just over their nose. the full face mask covers the mouth and nose. Try using it every night for however many hours you can tolerate it and keep increasing the time you sleep with it. You will never want to loeave it once you get used to it. The difference is amazing. Energy levels shoot up and weight goes down. Best of all your not choking all night scaring the hell out of yourself or your significant other. Good luck!

My husband has severe sleep apnea. The CPAP has most definitely helped.
I would say it can’t hurt to try it. Give it about 3 months so you can get used to the feel of wearing the headgear and hearing the air hiss.

I would try this first before a CPAP it will work for you it did for my brother and he has the same thing as you or probably worse! Everyone in my family is the same way it is really bad!! One of my brothers had to use a CPAP machine for a while because of his sleep apnea, but we finally found the answer to stop snoring and it is awesome!! It is a custom fitted mouthpiece that we purchased on http://www.prosnore.com it really works good and my brother doesn’t even have to use his CPAP anymore!! IT IS AWESOME! GIVE IT A TRY!!
