Question by : Sleep apnea problem please read?
I had sleep apnea for few years and I never knew, until few weeks ago (I have severe OSA). For the the past 2 years I been sleeping about 16 hours daily which includes two naps as well. I did really bad in school and I could not make up a lot of my work and missed many classes, plus I had trouble studying. My parents and my friends call my lazy and they say it’s my fault, will things get better because I start using the CPAP machine tomorrow. I also felt like I got upset easily over the past few years, I am not sure if it is related to sleep apnea or not.

Can be related to OSA. Even if you sleep 16 hours, if your OSA is severe you may not be getting any deep sleep. Being tired can make you easily upset. Also there are some schools of thought that stress hormones are released into your body when your breathing is restricted during sleep. That can also cause you to be emotional.
The first couple weeks with CPAP are the hardest. Once you get used to it you’ll do fine. A lot of the problems that people have in the first couple weeks are common, so be sure to talk to whoever provides your machine if things aren’t just right.
Being in classes and your parents weighing in on your life makes it sound like you are a teenager. Being a teen can also make you emotional. (Hormones) There is no machine to fix adolescence, but time will do it

Congratulations on taking that huge step. Once you commence to use the machine almost instantly your problems will begin to fade away. The most important thing is that you stay committed to using the CPAP machine and do not stop. I have been using the machine for the better part of six years now and it has changed my life. In the line of work that I am in, I was driving and falling asleep and that was an incredible hazard. My life has changed in so many ways. I now have more energy, and I can be up from 5:00 a.m. to about 11:30 easily. No naps. No interruption in my daily schedule. There will be challenges to your sleep habits and you will have to make some modifications, but they will all be well worth it. At the begin continue to take naps using the machine, you will begin to need them less and less as time goes by. Congratulations, your life is about to change for the better.
