Your primary care doctor might make a referral to a sleep clinic. They can determine whether you have a sleep disorder.

You should get tested. Sleep apnea is a condition in which you have complete or partial cessation of breathing during sleep. These periods of apnea typically last over 10 seconds at a time, and cause your blood oxygen level to decrease. The long-term effects of sleep apnea, other than the obvious one of daytime sleepiness, is hypertension, congestive heart failure, depression, metabolic disorders, and probably many other conditions we haven’t yet linked to sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is easily treatable once it has been diagnosed with a sleep study. See your doctor.
